Software RAID devices not being automatically detected

If your software RAID devices are not being automatically detected by the kernel on boot up, but work fine when you setup /etc/raidtab and issue raidstart /dev/md0 etc. Then you need to make sure that your software raid partitions have a partition type of fd.

Changing the partition type does not wipe the data on the disk.
